Laughable education
We believe that joy helps and heals. That is why we try to spread it in every way possible, directly and indirectly. Humour, shared joy and play are important means of communication. They help healthcare professionals to establish relationships with children and their parents, as well as with adult patients. Because Health Clowns cannot be everywhere, we organise seminars and workshops for current and future healthcare staff throughout the Czech Republic. The purpose of education in the field of humour and communication in healthcare is not to turn doctors and nurses into Health Clowns, but to share with them techniques and methods of open communication that have proven themselves in everyday practice. To familiarise them with the mission and purpose of the organisation Zdravotní klaun, o.p.s. and to work together to bring about positive change in the atmosphere in hospitals. The training is led by experienced and professionally trained professionals from our ranks.
Seminars for secondary medical schools
Health Clowns organises practical seminars for future nurses. After prior agreement with a specific secondary medical school, we prepare tailor-made presentations or seminars. We introduce young students to the activities of Health Clowns and present the organisation's mission and vision. We talk to them about specific cases from our practice and share the experiences of our Health Clowns.
Seminars for medical students and general nursing students
In recent years, we have significantly expanded and intensified our lecturing activities with the aim of developing in our listeners the ability to communicate in a joyful and playful (open) manner, not only with patients and family members, but also with colleagues. We have been working on these goals on a long-term and regular basis with the 2nd and 3rd medical faculties of Charles University in Prague. Expert lecturers from the ranks of Health Clowns lecture to medical students and nursing students not only in large lecture halls, but also as part of the compulsory elective course Communication and Humour in Healthcare. During these seminars, students in small groups practise and learn communication techniques with young and adult patients. This format allows them to receive immediate feedback. The aim is to strengthen individuals' communication skills and try out new forms of playful and effective interaction. We appreciate that the demand and initiative come from the faculties themselves and look forward to further developing our mutual cooperation.
Seminars for healthcare professionals
Since the establishment of Zdravotní klaun, o.p.s., there has been growing interest in seminars for healthcare personnel held directly in hospitals. Seminars are held by individual arrangement with specific healthcare facilities. Once again, the aim is not to turn doctors and nurses into Health Clowns, but to familiarise them with the issues of communication and humour in hospitals. We familiarise seminar participants with the mission of Zdravotní klauni and the practical experience we have gained since 2001 in interacting with patients in healthcare facilities throughout the Czech Republic, and we also focus on developing their communication skills with an emphasis on humour.
